I’ve had my eye on this micro-blogging phenomenon (see Twitter and Jaiku if you’re confused). The idea is appealing because it does away with all of the effort and commitment issues associated with traditional blogging. I briefly considered giving it a shot, but really, who wants to read about the minutæ related to everyday life.
With my quarter abroad coming soon, I’ve finally jumped on board. During this time I hope I’ll have some interesting things to share. I intend for the majority of posts to consist of a photo with a short comment or caption attached. The photo-centric nature of this site is undoubtedly due to my recent iPhone purchase—a device that makes it remarkably easy to snap quick pictures and write captions on the go. Since Twitter didn’t support this functionality, I set out to build my own micro-blog that would support photos (along side text, of course) using Tumblr. After two days of template building, coding, and testing, I’m pretty satisfied with the result, and I made it in time for my trip too!
On the technical side, I’m planning to take the majority of my photos with an iPhone and post to Tumblr and Flickr via email. All uploading will be done via WiFi, so the period between the time the photo was taken and the time the photo was posted will depend on the availability of WiFi. Rest assured, under most circumstances, it shouldn’t be more than a few hours. I expect (and hope) that WiFi will readily available in most places I’ll be going.
With this decidedly un-micro-blog post, I’m going to open the site!
